It is essential that all contractors working on our roads and highways both work safely and leave a safe place for us all to walk and drive.

The HAWC. Highways agency utilities committee guidelines are set out in a suite of criteria which forms the Qualification approved by the awarding body. SQA. It is a legal requirement for All workers in the highway to carry this certificate.

The Qualification targets two distinctive groups. Operative and supervisor. Maximum 8 people per group.

The 5 day course is as follows (there is an on-line 20 multiple choice question at the end of each day. With time and opportunity for re-sits if required.

Upcoming Dates

Day 1

Identify different road types from Motorway to quiet B roads and how they as labelled. It then looks at identification and location of buried services including an outside exercise to support this.

Day 2

Here we look at setting out signs, traffic lights and safe working Zones, again a practical exercise supports this training.

Day 3

Today we look at safe excavation or different surface and ground material.

Day 4

This covers the reinstatement of material. What to do if the regulatory materials are not present and compaction and cold lay Bitumous material.

Day 5

Reinstatement of surfaces that includes block paving. Concrete, and flags. We also have a delivery of hot bitumous material that must be layed in layers with correct compaction.
